Khoshroo to UN chief:

US liable for consequences of JCPOA violation

US liable for consequences of JCPOA violation

TEHRAN, Dec. 07 (MNA) – Iran’s envoy to UN in a letter to Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said the extension of Iran Sanctions Act (ISA) by US is a violation of nuclear deal and the country will be held accountable for the adverse consequences.

Iran Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nation Gholamali Khoshroo addressed Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in a letter on Wednesday, following the recent move by the US Congress in passing the extension of Iran Sanctions Act (ISA), which according to many Iranian senior officials, is in clear violation of the JCPOA.

“The government of the Islamic Republic of Iran deems the recent measure by the US Congress in extending ISA by 2026 in contradiction of America’s commitments under the nuclear deal,” Khoshroo said in the letter.

It is highlighted in the letter that according to the provisions of the JCPOA, the US as one of the six countries signed up to the deal, has agreed to refrain from extending or re-imposing sanctions against Iran, or take any other measure that violates the objectives, text and spirit of the deal.

Khoshroo has called on the UN chief to hold all sides to the nuclear deal, particularly the US, liable for complying their commitments. Ban has been also asked to reflect the recent move by the US and other cases of violations in the implementation of the JCPOA in his future reports to the Security Council.
